Danville, VA (October 30, 2009) - The Honda Civic Type R from the team of Mark Hein, Peter Venn and John Schmitt topped qualifying for Saturday's Charge of the Headlight Brigade 13 hour enduro at VIRginia International Raceway. Following the Honda's time of 2:10.329 or 90.325 mph on the 3.27 mile road course was an Acura TL at the hands of Lee Niffenberger and Brian Shanfield with a best lap time of 2:11.862.
Local favorite James K. Clay and his co drivers wheeled their BMW 325 to third place on the grid. 51 cars take the green flag shortly after 9:00 Saturday morning, battling through the day and into the night for the 13 hour endurance contest. Several star drivers in other fields of road racing have entered, including Charles Espenlaub, a winner past enduro races, driving a Mazda MX5 and the Daytona Prototype drivers Jordan Taylor and Dion von Moltke, teamed with Alex Kirby and Spencer Pigot in a Mazda Miata.
A Honda has captured the overall honors in this race in past years so come out and see if the victory can be repeated. The public is admitted to the race, with the paddock open to spectators to see the cars up close. Road racing continues rain or shine, adding even more excitement to the sport.
